Zürich may not be the capital city – that honor goes to Bern - but it is the largest city in Switzerland and thus has more on offer than other Swiss destinations. The British Labor Party's ‘Gnomes of Zurich’ or Orson Welles’ infamous line from The Third Man about Switzerland: 'five hundred years of democracy - and what did they produce? The cuckoo clock’ no longer ring true. This renowned Swiss city is perfectly situated on the north-west bank of Lake Zürich and is the Swiss center of economics and education. This modern city offers brilliant views of the Swiss Alps that can be seen across the lake as well as beautiful restaurants full of Swiss cheese and decadent chocolates. As a cosmopolitan city, it is active day and night with a diverse array of museums, performance events, and Switzerland’s most vibrant nightlife. A visit to Zürich would not be complete without taking a stroll through the picturesque Old Town, enjoying the panoramic view from the Lindenhof lookout, and spending some time in the designer shops that line Bahnhofstrasse.
