Interlaken is a traditional Swiss town situated between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz which are connected by the River Aare. This is a town known for its impressive mountain scenery and is overlooked by three mighty mountains: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Interlaken is the perfect place for the outdoor enthusiast to visit. It is the starting point for a number of outdoor activities including an excursion to Jungfrau, also known as the Top of Europe. Visitors can also enjoy a cable car ride to the top of Niederhorn Mountain or take the funicular up to a viewing platform at Harder Kulm for some panoramic views.
Interlaken also offers many attractions for those who prefer lower elevations as well. There are many shops throughout the city, both luxury and souvenir, along with the Höheweg that goes from Interlaken West station to Interlaken Ost station. Interlaken has lots of cozy cafes and restaurants, and be sure to stop by Höhe Matte, the large park in the center of Interlaken, where many people gather to watch the paragliders land.
