Where to Spend New Year’s Eve in Prague 2017

Samantha Barbagallo  ·  12 / 10 / 2017

Prague is one of the best places to be in Central Europe for New Year celebrations. Never one to do things low key, the capital pulls out all the stops with hundreds of New Year's Eve parties and events that ensure an unforgettable night. Spend New Year's Day working off your hangover, or taking a refreshing stroll around Prague's many historical sights before the fun continues at 6 pm with the city's fantastic NYE firework display on January 1st!

Here is our guide to everything you need to know about celebrating New Year's Eve in Prague. You can also speak to one of our travel consultants for help making reservations at any of the mentioned events!

Prague's New Year's Eve Fireworks

New Year's Eve would not be complete with the booming sound of fireworks at midnight and in Prague, fireworks take center stage in the celebrations. Oddly, the official fireworks display is on January 1st at 6 pm (details of where will be released in November), but many areas around the city are filled with amateur displays.

Option 1: Head to the main squares
The most popular spots for watching fireworks on New Year's Eve are around two of Prague's largest squares, Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square. We do not recommend this option for families or those who are afraid of fireworks. Czechs love to set fireworks, and with a beer in one hand and a lighter in the other, you can expect that many fireworks be set off the street, therefore not 100% safe.

Option 2: Find a more distant spot
Head away from the main crowds and find your place on one of the nearby bridges. Charles Bridge is very popular as well as Petrin Hill or the river bank like Kampa Park.
Alternatively, opt for an indoor option, where you will surely be safer and warmer. Reservations are essential and will be pricier than average.
